What would a framework for learning look like if it included wonder, creativity, movement and social interaction?

The proposed framework expands cognitive, affective and sensorimotor learning and adds a social domain. It then brings all four together as thinking, feeling, sensing/moving and interacting, with the aim of supporting all students’ potential and self-fulfillment.

Educational taxonomies developed by Bloom, Krathwohl and collaborators have served for decades as frameworks for instructional objectives, curriculum design and assessments of achievement. This conceptual proposal argues that their scope is now too limited and extends and synthesizes those domains.

The familiar cognitive domain is extended to include the ideational functions of imagination and creativity. The affective domain is enhanced to include internalization, wonder and risk taking.

The psychomotor domain is expanded into a sensorimotor domain, incorporating the five senses along with balance, spatial relationships, movement and other physical activity.

A social domain is introduced to emphasize the sociocultural processes that accompany thinking, feeling and sensing/movement.

Finally, the four domains are synthesized into a unified domain of thinking, feeling, sensing/moving and interacting, with the aim of optimizing potential and self-fulfillment for all students.
